Chapter 2

Next day…

I woke up before my alarm.

For a few seconds, I just stared at the ceiling, confused.

Then suddenly…

Everything came back.

New school.

New faces.

Aarushi. Shreya.

Aarav… Reyansh…

…and him.

Eshaan.

I closed my eyes tightly.

“Why am I thinking about him so much…” I whispered.

It didn’t make sense.

I had just met him.

Barely spoken to him.

Still…

Something felt different.

“Vani! Jaldi uth jao!” Maa called from outside.

“I’m awake!” I replied quickly.

I got ready faster than usual.

Even I noticed it.

“Second day hai… itni jaldi?” Maa asked while serving

breakfast.

“Bas aise hi…”

She smiled. “Accha hai. Adjustment ho raha hai.”

“Haan…”

But inside…

I wasn’t sure if I was adjusting.

Or getting pulled into something new.

School

The school gate felt familiar today.

Less scary.

But more… exciting.

I walked inside, holding my bag tightly.

And somehow…

My eyes searched for him again.

Why?

I sighed.

“Control, Vani.”

I reached my classroom.

“Good morning!” Aarushi shouted dramatically.

“Good morning,” I laughed.

“Today you’re early again,” Shreya said.

“Coincidence,” I replied.

“Or maybe…” Aarushi leaned closer, “kisi ka wait hai?”

“No!”

They both laughed.

“Tum pakdi gayi ho,” Shreya said.

Before I could defend myself—

The bell rang.

“Assembly!” Aarushi grabbed my hand.

Assembly Ground

Lines were formed.

11th students here.

12th students there.

Distance.

Small…

but noticeable.

I tried not to look.

Really.

But my eyes…

They betrayed me.

Eshaan.

Standing there.

Talking to Aarav and Reyansh.

Calm.

Confident.

Unbothered.

“Phir dekh rahi hai,” Aarushi whispered.

“Bas last time,” I muttered.

“Kal bhi yahi bola tha.”

I ignored her.

But suddenly—

He looked up.

Our eyes met.

For a second.

And I immediately looked away.

My heart racing.

Why does this happen every time?

After Assembly — Classroom

Classes began.

Maths.

Physics.

Chemistry.

Everything felt heavy.

Not because of studies.

But because I couldn’t focus.

“Vani,” teacher called.

I stood up.

“Yes ma’am?”

“Answer?”

I froze.

I didn’t even hear the question.

“I… I’m sorry ma’am.”

“Pay attention.”

“Yes ma’am.”

I sat down, embarrassed.

“Someone is distracted,” Aarushi whispered.

“Shut up,” I muttered.

Break Time — Canteen

We went to the canteen again.

This time, it felt less overwhelming.

We ordered samosas and cold drinks.

“Finally, peace,” Shreya said.

“For 10 minutes,” Aarushi added.

We laughed.

Then—

“Can we join?”

We looked up.

Aarav.

Reyansh.

And…

Eshaan.

“Haan,” Aarushi said quickly.

They sat.

“So, Vani,” Aarav said, “adjust ho gayi?”

“Almost…”

“Good.”

Reyansh leaned back. “11th ka pressure abhi start bhi nahi hua.”

“Thanks for scaring me,” I said.

He laughed. “Truth hai.”

Aarav smiled. “Don’t worry. Agar kuch chahiye ho toh bolna.”

That warmth again.

Comfortable.

Safe.

Then suddenly—

“Tum chup kyu ho?” Reyansh asked Eshaan.

“Sun raha hoon,” he replied.

Bas.

Short answer.

But his eyes.

They weren’t just listening.

They were observing.

I don’t know why…

But it felt like he notices everything.

Even things I don’t say.

“Tum yaha shift kyu hui?” he asked suddenly.

Again.

That question.

I felt my chest tighten.

“Family reasons,” I said softly.

Silence.

He looked at me.

Longer this time.

As if he knew…

I wasn’t telling the full truth.

Then—

“Hmm.”

Just that.

But it felt heavy.

After School

Today, Aarushi and Shreya had extra classes.

So I was alone.

I stepped out of school slowly.

The road felt quiet.

Peaceful.

But inside me…

There was noise.

Too many thoughts.

Too many feelings.

“Vani."

I turned.

Eshaan.

Again.

Alone.

“Tum akeli ja rahi ho?”

(Are you going alone)

“Haan…”

(Yes)

“Main bhi.”

(Me to)

We started walking.

Side by side.

No rush.

No pressure.

Just… walking.

“Tum new ho yaha,” he said.

(Are you new here)

“Haan.”

(Yeah)

“Adjust kar pa rahi ho?”

(Are you able to adjust)

“Trying.”

“Good.”

Silence again.

But this time—

I wasn’t uncomfortable.

I was aware.

Of him.

Of every step.

Of every second.

“Tum zyada bolti nahi ho,” he said.

(You don't speak much)

I smiled. “Aap bhi nahi.”

(You to)

He looked at me.

And then--

He smiled.

A real one.

Soft.

Genuine.

And something inside me…

Shifted.

Author's Pov – Twist Hint 😈

But not everything was as simple as it seemed.

Not every smile was innocent.

Not every silence was peaceful.

And not every past…

Stays in the past.

Vani’s POV (Night Scene)

That night…

I couldn’t sleep.

I kept thinking.

About everything.

About him.

About school.

About.

My past.

I sat up suddenly.

My breath uneven.

Memories.

Flashes.

Voices.

“Run…”

“No one should know…”

“Protect them…”

I covered my ears.

“Stop…”

Tears rolled down my cheeks.

“I won’t let anything happen to them…” I whispered.

“No matter what…”

Ending Scene (Hook 🔥)

Next morning…

At school…

Everything felt normal again.

Until—

A black car stopped outside the gate.

I noticed it.

Something about it felt… wrong.

The window rolled down slightly.

And for a second—

I felt like someone was watching me.

My heartbeat increased.

Fear.

A feeling I knew too well.

“Vani?” Aarushi called.

I snapped out of it.

“Haan…”

But when I looked back—

The car was gone.

Like it was never there.

But I knew.

This wasn’t over.

Not yet.
